Paint Protection Film

Every Macomb County driver knows the feeling: you are cruising on I-94 or M-53, a semi-truck kicks up a piece of gravel, and a split second later there is a fresh chip in your hood. There is no avoiding rocks and road debris if you drive on Michigan roads. What you can control is whether that impact lands on bare paint or on a film built to absorb it.

Paint protection film is a clear, self-healing layer that takes the hit instead of your clear coat. Rite-Way Auto Reconditioning installs three of the most trusted PPF brands in the industry, XPEL, STEK, and 3M, in four coverage levels, so whether you want to protect just the highest-impact areas or wrap the entire vehicle, there is an option sized to your budget and how you actually drive.

Coverage Options

Partial Front

NHOU oil undercoating stays slightly fluid and keeps creeping into small scratches and seams over time, which works well for trucks that take regular rock chips and scrapes underneath.

Full Front

NHOU Boss Wax Hybrid undercoating builds a tougher, longer-wearing barrier, which can be a good fit for a truck that sits outside year-round and needs maximum coverage.

XPEL vs STEK vs 3M: Which Film Is Right for You

We get asked which brand is “the best” almost every week, and the honest answer is that all three are excellent films with different strengths. Here is how we explain it to our customers.

Undercoating & Rustproofing in Macomb County, MI

XPEL Ultimate Plus has the longest real-world track record of any film we install, with installations holding up well past 8 to 10 years on cars driven hard through Michigan winters. It is the industry-standard name for a reason, and it is the safest, most proven choice if you want a film with the broadest history of performing well over time.

STEK DYNOshield carries a 10-year warranty, extendable to 12 years when it is paired with STEK’s Final Coat ceramic top coat, and it has the most aggressive self-healing of the three brands. Light swirl marks and scratches in STEK film disappear at a lower heat threshold than competing films, meaning direct sunlight or warm water is often enough. It also conforms tighter around complex curves and body lines, which matters on cars with a lot of detailed bodywork. It is the newest of the three brands to the market, so it has less long-term history than XPEL, but the early performance has been excellent.

3M invented paint protection film in the 1960s to protect military helicopter rotor blades, and that heritage carried into the automotive world through OEM partnerships and decades of use in racing and on enthusiast cars. The 3M Pro Series 200 carries a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty covering both material and replacement labor, with industry-leading resistance to paint chips. It is a durable, broadly trusted name, though the newest self-healing and clarity advancements on the market right now sit with XPEL and STEK.

There is no wrong choice among the three. We will talk through your car, your budget, and how you actually drive before recommending one.

Self-Healing Film, Explained

All three brands we install are self-healing. Light scratches and swirl marks in the film itself disappear with heat, whether that is a warm day in the sun or hot water. The film takes the damage instead of your clear coat, and then heals itself instead of showing it. STEK activates at the lowest heat threshold of the three, XPEL and 3M both need slightly more heat to fully self-heal.

PPF for Specific Vehicles

If you drive a Corvette, Tesla, Porsche, or Cybertruck, we have dedicated pages covering the coverage patterns and considerations specific to those vehicles:

Want a Different Look Instead of Just Protection?

Color Change PPF changes the color of your vehicle while protecting the paint underneath. Stealth PPF gives you a matte or satin finish with the same impact protection as our clear film.

No, they solve different problems. PPF physically absorbs impacts like rock chips. Ceramic coating makes the paint easier to clean and adds chemical and UV resistance. Many customers run both.
