XPEL vs STEK vs 3M: Which Film Is Right for You
We get asked which brand is “the best” almost every week, and the honest answer is that all three are excellent films with different strengths. Here is how we explain it to our customers.
XPEL Ultimate Plus has the longest real-world track record of any film we install, with installations holding up well past 8 to 10 years on cars driven hard through Michigan winters. It is the industry-standard name for a reason, and it is the safest, most proven choice if you want a film with the broadest history of performing well over time.
STEK DYNOshield carries a 10-year warranty, extendable to 12 years when it is paired with STEK’s Final Coat ceramic top coat, and it has the most aggressive self-healing of the three brands. Light swirl marks and scratches in STEK film disappear at a lower heat threshold than competing films, meaning direct sunlight or warm water is often enough. It also conforms tighter around complex curves and body lines, which matters on cars with a lot of detailed bodywork. Self-Healing Film, Explained
All three brands we install are self-healing. Light scratches and swirl marks in the film itself disappear with heat, whether that is a warm day in the sun or hot water. The film takes the damage instead of your clear coat, and then heals itself instead of showing it. STEK activates at the lowest heat threshold of the three, XPEL and 3M both need slightly more heat to fully self-heal.
